ASME Section VIII U-Stamped MLI's with 316SS JMT™ Transmitters shipped to Middle East

We are in the process of shipping out ASME Section VIII U-Stamped (per customer requirements) Magnetic Level Indicators with 316SS JMT Series Magnetostrictive Transmitters. The customer is installing fire suppression equipment on an offshore platform in the Middle East. These Jerguson gages will be used on a variety of chemical and water tanks supporting the fire suppression system.


What Does U-Stamped Mean?

ASME Section VIII governs the design, construction, and certification of pressure vessels. A "U-Stamp" indicates that a pressure vessel or pressure-retaining component has been manufactured, inspected, and certified in accordance with ASME Section VIII requirements, verified by an authorized inspector, and stamped accordingly.

For this order, the customer required U-Stamp certification specifically - meaning every step of the manufacturing and inspection process for these MLIs needed to meet the documentation, material traceability, and third-party inspection requirements the code demands, rather than simply being built to the same design standards without the formal certification and inspector sign-off.


Why Fire Suppression Tanks Need Reliable Level Indication

Fire suppression systems on offshore platforms depend on chemical and water supply tanks being ready and at proper level at all times - these aren't process tanks where a level discrepancy causes an operational inconvenience. If a fire suppression tank runs low without anyone knowing, the system may not have adequate supply to respond to an actual fire event. Reliable, continuously verifiable level indication on these tanks is a genuine life-safety matter, not just an instrumentation nicety.


This is precisely the kind of application where both the U-Stamp certification and the redundancy provided by combining a magnetic level indicator with an electronic transmitter matter most.


Why 316 Stainless Steel for the JMT Transmitters

316 stainless steel (316SS) was specified for the JMT Series Magnetostrictive Transmitters used in this order. This grade is widely used in offshore and marine environments specifically because of its superior corrosion resistance to chloride exposure - a critical property in an offshore Middle East platform environment, where salt air and marine conditions are constant and corrosion resistance directly affects instrument service life and reliability.


Why MLI Plus Transmitter for This Application

Pairing the Magnicator's magnetic level indicator with a JMT Series magnetostrictive transmitter gives this fire suppression system two forms of level verification from the same installation: direct visual confirmation via the magnetic indicator for personnel physically checking tank status, and a continuous electronic signal from the transmitter for integration into the platform's monitoring and alarm systems. For a safety-critical system like fire suppression, having both forms of verification available supports genuine confidence that tank levels are being monitored correctly at all times.


Why This Matters for Offshore Applications

Offshore platforms operate under some of the most demanding combined requirements in industrial instrumentation: extreme corrosion exposure from marine conditions, strict code compliance and certification requirements, and safety-critical applications where instrumentation failure has serious consequences.
