Simpliport® 180: Why a Northeast Power Plant Replaced Their Competitor's Boiler Water Level Gage

When it comes to viewing boiler water level, operators need to see it clearly — at any angle, any distance. A power plant in the Northeast United States learned this the hard way with their previous gage, and their experience illustrates a common visibility problem in boiler rooms.


The Problem: Hard-to-Read Color Strip

The plant was using a competitor's boiler water level gage that relied on a traditional color strip design to indicate steam versus water. LED Illumination Replaces Color Strips

Instead of a physical color strip, the Simpliport LED Illuminator uses high-intensity, long-life red and green LEDs to indicate steam (red) and water (green). This eliminates the fading, degradation, and poor contrast issues associated with traditional color strip designs.

Extended Service Life

The LED service life reaches up to 10 years — far exceeding traditional incandescent or halogen lamps used in earlier gage designs, which typically required replacement every 1-2 years.

Following the replacement:

  • Operators can read water level clearly from across the boiler room, not just standing directly in front
