Overcoming Low Specific Gravity Challenges with a Customized MLI Solution

The Problem:

A major refinery in India faced operational challenges in their Refinery Off-Gas Cracker Plant for an Ethane Vapor application. The traditional magnetic level gage initially installed proved inadequate for the process due to the low specific gravity (SG) of 0.44. The gage's flags failed to rotate accurately, leading to incorrect level readings and frequent equipment malfunctions.

The Jerguson Solution:

We proposed and installed a Jerguson® Magnicator® Magnetic Level Indicator tailored specifically for this application. Key features of the solution included:

  • A longer titanium float designed to operate effectively with SG as low as 0.44.

  • Customization to meet the operating process conditions.

  • Enhanced reliability and accurate level readings under challenging conditions.

Outcome:

The installation of the Magnicator® resolved the refinery's issues by:

  • Providing accurate level readings, ensuring smooth operations in the Off-Gas Cracker unit.

  • Eliminating flag-sticking issues and improving equipment reliability.

  • Enhancing operational efficiency and reducing maintenance requirements.

The successful implementation of the Magnicator® Magnetic Level Indicator showcased the importance of selecting equipment designed to meet specific process challenges, such as low specific gravity. By resolving the refinery's operational issues, the MLI has improved reliability, accuracy, and efficiency, demonstrating Jerguson’s expertise in delivering tailored and effective industrial solutions.
