Improving Safety and Reliability with Jerguson Magnicator Magnetic Level Gages

A petrochemical facility in the Caribbean recently enhanced the safety and efficiency of its operations by replacing their traditional magnetic level gages with Jerguson® Magnicator® Magnetic Level Indicators. This upgrade addressed critical safety issues, such as inaccurate level indication and skipped flags, which posed risks in the facility's low-temperature and high-pressure environments.

To meet the facility's specific needs, the Jerguson gages were equipped with:

  • FlashProof™ Chambers: The Jerguson FlashProof design addresses two potential problems that may occur with standard level indicators: boiling fluids and flashing vapors.  By employing a larger 3″ Schedule 40 pipe and two internal guide rods, entrained gases that build up under the float can harmlessly escape.  The float is held to one side of the chamber to insure an optimized magnetic field in close proximity to the indicator, transmitter or switches.  This provides an accurate float level and indicator reading.

  • Hermetically Sealed Indicators: The Jerguson Hermetically-Sealed Flag Indicator is purged with inert gas and permanently sealed for use in severe applications.  To achieve an IP-68 certification, this indicator utilizes a permanent epoxy end seal for outstanding long life dependability, unlike valved or silicon seals used by other manufacturers.  It also features a 316SS housing for excellent corrosion resistance.

  • Magnetic Particle Traps: Magnetic Traps prevent build-up of ferritic material around float magnets.

These tailored solutions have provided the facility with robust, precise, and long-lasting level measurement capabilities, significantly improving safety and operational reliability.
