Check out the new features of the Eye-Hye® SmartLevel™ Remote Water Level Indication System's SC Series Control Unit.
Field-Proven, 100% Modular Design
The SC Series Control Unit uses a field-proven, 100% modular design with rugged, vibration-resistant connections for probe level detection modules, peripheral accessory boards, and field wiring terminations. Modular construction means individual components - a specific probe detection module, for instance - can be serviced or replaced independently, without requiring the entire control unit to be pulled and replaced for a single component issue.
Built for Real Vibration Conditions
Boiler and process environments aren't vibration-free, and connections not designed with this in mind can loosen or fail over time from sustained operational vibration. The SC Series' rugged, vibration-resistant connections address this directly at the connection points most likely to be affected - probe level detection modules, peripheral accessory boards, and field wiring terminations all benefit from this design consideration.
Wire Guides Reduce Termination Stress
The unit includes wire guides for incoming wiring, specifically to relieve stress at wire terminations. Wiring stress at termination points is a common, often overlooked source of long-term reliability issues in control systems - a connection that's mechanically stressed, even if electrically sound today, is more likely to develop an intermittent or eventual failure than one properly relieved of that stress from the start.
2-Out-of-3 Voting Logic for Alarms and Trip Circuits
The SC Series provides alarms and trip circuits at field-selectable levels using 2-out-of-3 voting logic. This is the same underlying redundancy principle we've covered in TWIP® Level Switch protection: rather than a single sensing point triggering an alarm or trip on its own, voting logic requires agreement among a majority of designated sensing points before the circuit activates. This approach virtually eliminates false trips caused by a single faulty probe or sensor, while still ensuring genuine alarm conditions are caught reliably.
Time Delay on Actuation and Release
The control unit also provides time delay on both actuation and release. This prevents the system from reacting to brief, transient conditions that don't represent a genuine sustained alarm state - a momentary reading fluctuation doesn't need to trigger a full trip response, but a sustained condition should. Time delay on release similarly prevents rapid cycling once a condition has cleared, avoiding a system that oscillates in and out of alarm state at a boundary condition.
Why These Features Matter Together
Modularity supports faster repair when something does need attention. Vibration resistance and wire guide stress relief reduce how often something needs attention in the first place. Voting logic and time delay ensure that when the system does alarm or trip, operators can trust it reflects a genuine condition rather than noise. Together, these features are what allow a boiler level protection system to be trusted for continuous, unattended operation rather than requiring constant manual verification.
Applications
SC Series Control Unit features matter across:
Power Generation: Continuous steam drum level monitoring requiring high alarm confidence
Facilities in High-Vibration Environments: Where connection reliability directly affects system uptime
Any Application Requiring False-Trip Elimination: Through voting logic rather than single-point sensing
